Frame assembly?

by James
(Ireland )

Part 3. "assemble the frame". How to assemble the frame with no flat area (e.g. Outside on the grass etc). Also do you use clamps to hold in place before fastening?

Part 4. "measure the diagonal for square". But how can we square it up if it's already assembled? Or is there something I'm missing?

Thanks for your help.

Shed Frame Assembly
by: John

Hi James,

You will have to find a relatively flat area to assemble your floor pieces together and hopefully you can find an area in your yard for this.

If you can't do this you will have to set and place floor skids and have them leveled up and in their proper location. Once you have this done you can lay one of your band boards on an outside skid then start nailing your floor joists to this band board one by one. Then go to the other side and nail that band board in place. You can then pull or slide the floor assembly where it should be on the skids. It's at this point you can take diagonal measurements to ensure your floor frame is square.

If you're not using skids then follow the information below:

It's not necessary to clamp everything together! Lay the floor joists out in there approximate locations and also place your outside band boards in place. Next you basically nail each floor joist to one of the band boards in their exact location, then go to the other band board and nail the floor joists to that one.

All this is covered in the building guide that comes with each of my plans, or you can download them for free if you go to my website and have a look at the top of the page and click on the 'free building guide' link.
