I am looking at building a wood floor for my storage shed

and I just want to make sure it is sturdy enough for my riding mower. I plan to place it on solid concrete block but what type of joists should I use to build it with so there is no sagging. I am planning on 3/4" flooring material.

I have seen a skid type version of using 4x4s put down with then 2x4s across them but I am unsure of how many 4x4s would I want to use to support the 2x4s and are the 2x4s large enough or should I use 2x6s.

I am planning to place them 12" on center to better support the flooring. My shed is 10'x14'.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Anything else let me know.

Thanks for your time.

Here's the answer to Tims question about his shed floor, answered by the shedmaster at shedking.net

Hi Tim,

Use treated 2x6's, and treated 3/4 flooring, preferably tongue and groove. Use 3 - 4x4 treated skids, one in the middle, and the outside skids no less than 6" to 1' in from the edge. And yes, your shed floor joists should be spaced 1' on center.

Nail your joists to the skids wherever they touch, with 16 size nails, double checking your joist spacing before nailing. The front and back edges of all skids should be flush with the outside edges of your perimeter 2x6 boards. Also, make sure your support blocks fo your storage shed floor are made to allow 4x4 skids to fit into the top of them.

Hope I answered your question ok Tim,
